Better Journeys Ahead: Woodlands Checkpoint Redevelopment
Better Journeys Ahead: Woodlands Checkpoint Redevelopment
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will redevelop Woodlands Checkpoint (WCP) over the next 10 to 15 years, promising major improvements for Marsiling. Construction for Phase 1 is set to commence in 2025, and will feature new automated clearance facilities for cargo vehicles, arriving cars, and motorcycles, as well as the extension of Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and upgrading of the surrounding local road networks to ease congestion during peak hours and improve overall traffic flow. When fully redeveloped, the checkpoint aims to:
-
Reduce average travel time from the current 60 minutes to 15 minutes during peak periods; and
-
Provide holding areas for traffic within the checkpoint, to reduce congestion extending onto local roads and the BKE leading to WCP.
Noise barriers will also be installed near the development sites and along the viaducts to reduce noise levels adjacent to residential areas, in line with NEA’s noise level limit guidelines.
